Dr. Joe Jordan is Innovation Engineering Practice Manager for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Mississippi (MEP.ms). In this role, his primary responsibility is to provide leadership for the MEP.ms Innovation Engineering (IE) initiative, which helps manufacturers increase innovation speed and decrease risk. He also coordinates the E3 (Economy, Energy, and Environment) program, which focuses on sustainable manufacturing.

Dr. Jordan has nearly 30 years of work experience in higher education at several different institutions and in a variety of roles, including teaching, research, outreach/extension and administration. This included more than 12 years of full-time experience in university-based extension and outreach, developing and delivering educational programs and providing technical assistance and other services to businesses and industries. Most of this work was done at Mississippi State University, first with the Food and Fiber Center and later with the Industrial Outreach Service. He was also involved in the development of one of the first MEP university centers at Georgia Tech.

From 2006 until 2010, Joe was Director of the MSU Industrial Outreach Service (IOS), a small university-based MEP.ms center at Mississippi State University. As Director, he provided administrative leadership for a team that completed more than 100 MEP.ms client projects resulting in more than $75 million in quantified economic impact and was credited with 175 jobs created or retained. During his tenure as director, IOS also delivered or partnered to deliver more than 40 workshops and conferences targeted at business and industry with a total registered enrollment of more than 2,500.

Immediately prior to joining MTA, Joe was a Project Manager with the Office of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer at Mississippi State University. He is a Fellow of the MTA Venture Coaching Academy and a certified venture coach. He regularly mentors companies preparing to compete in the Mississippi Venture Challenge.

Joe has provided leadership in various industry and professional organizations including the Mississippi Biomass and Renewable Energy Council (Vice-President, 2009-2011), the American Industrial Extension Alliance (Vice-President, 2009-2010), the Mississippi Manufacturers Association (Energy Committee, 2005-2009; Public Relations Committee, 2009-2010), and the Institute of Industrial Engineers (Central MS Chapter President, 1989-1991).

Dr. Jordan also has more than a dozen years of experience as an academic faculty member engaged in teaching, research, and service. He has taught a wide range of courses in business, engineering, and technology. He has held full- or part-time teaching positions at the University of Southern Mississippi (engineering technology), Georgia State University (operations management), the University of South Alabama (quality systems management), and Mississippi State University (engineering). Joe holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial engineering from Mississippi State University and a Ph.D. degree in operations management from Georgia State University.
